Detailed general performance requirements for cryogenic storage tanks

Date: Mar 10, 2020
Cryogenic storage tank is a vertical or horizontal double-layer vacuum insulation tank for storing liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide and other media. In this way, everyone should have some understanding of the role of low temperature storage tanks. This is not very well understood. Next, our experts share the special requirements of low temperature storage tanks with everyone, hoping to help everyone understand the cryogenic liquid storage tanks.

Requirements for cryogenic storage tanks:
1. cryogenic resistance: Because its design is to liquefy natural gas and store it at normal pressure or slightly higher than normal pressure, compared with high pressure and normal temperature storage, it can greatly reduce the thickness of the tank wall and improve safety performance. Need cryogenic resistance.

2. high safety requirements: Because the tank stores cryogenic liquids and has a large storage capacity, if an accident occurs in the storage tank, a large amount of volatile refrigerated liquid will form an air mass that will automatically detonate in the atmosphere. Therefore, the API, EN14620 and other regulations require that the storage tanks have a double-walled structure and use the concept of a fence to ensure storage safety.

3. Special materials: The inner tank wall requires cryogenic resistance. Generally, 9Ni steel is used, and the outer tank wall is prestressed reinforced concrete, and the general design tensile strength is ≥20kPa.
4. Strict thermal insulation measures: As the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the tank can reach 200 ° C, the tank temperature must be kept at -162 ° C, the tank must have good cold insulation performance, and high performance filling between the inner tank and the outer tank Cold insulation material. The bottom of the tank must have sufficient pressure capacity.

5. Good anti-seismic performance: In order to ensure safety, the LNG storage tank is required not to fall or crack under the specified seismic load. You need to choose a suitable place to avoid the seismic zone, and you need to do an earthquake test on the storage tank before construction.

6. Strict construction requirements: 100% magnetic powder inspection (MT) and 100% vacuum tightness inspection (VBT) are required for storage tanks. To strictly select cold insulation materials, the prescribed procedures should be followed during construction and the verticality of the storage tank should be guaranteed.
