How to reduce the generation of static electricity in oil storage tanks in autumn and winter

Date: Oct 29, 2020
People who frequently use petroleum fuel storage tanks should know that it is necessary to pay attention to safety issues when using it in autumn and winter, because static electricity is easy to generate in autumn and winter, causing oil tank fire accidents. At this time, everyone needs to take some measures to reduce Static electricity is generated, the following is the specific method:

1. Control the flow rate into the tank
The amount of static electricity generated by the oil flowing in the pipeline is proportional to the square of the flow velocity. Reducing the flow is an effective way to reduce the static electricity generated by the oil.

2. Prevent shock, splash, and electricity
The static electricity generated by oil spraying and filling from the top is twice as high as that of oil filling from the bottom. If the top-in oil filling method is used, the feed tube should be inserted into the bottom of the tank.

3. Eliminate human body static electricity
Workers who enter explosion-hazardous places should wear anti-static shoes, anti-static clothing or cotton overalls, and install static discharge devices on the escalator of the storage tank.

4. Prevent the accumulation of static electricity
Grounding is a basic and important measure to prevent static electricity. There should be metal jumpers between two adjacent metal objects, flanges or joints with insulation. The grounding resistance should be checked regularly to keep the grounding in good condition.
